After a long day at work, cooking dinner, running errands, and holding yourself together, there is no better place to finish your day than in your bedroom. It is the safe haven that seems to call to you even while you’re away from home. It is the space that is all your own, providing comfort, privacy and a place to simply call your own. This is the one room that deserves your time to really design and layout the way that you want it. When it comes to painting, we can take care of the dirty work, but picking the color is entirely on you. We will offer help, of course, but it will all come down to what type of space you’re looking to create. To make the process a little easier, we’ve provided some of the colors that were highlighted by HGTV as the best colors for a master bedroom, based off of something known as Psychology of Color.

Mood

One of the things that you need to consider when picking a color is the mood that you’d like to set. This should be a place where you’re able to unwind and consider a retreat. There is no one color that can provide you with this, so there are still plenty of options. You can go from light and bright colors all the way to the other end of the spectrum with the darker colors, or you could pick a nude color and add pops of color throughout the room. In regards to setting a mood, we have found that neutral colors work well because they make it easy to switch up pieces as you need, but if you’re looking for a room with color, adding accent walls is one of the best ways to make it colorful, without creating a space that is overwhelming.

Passions

If you are dead set on going with a color, then you want to make sure that you have a color that you’re passionate about. While this is something that can seem great at the moment, you need to make sure that you will be able to handle it at the end of every day, for months if not years to come. Red is one of the colors that people often want to add to their room, and that’s totally great! However, as you go through your pallets and sample colors, make sure that a barn door red is something that you will be able to handle.

One of the suggestions that we make is to stick with colors that are a more muted. For example, if you love the color blue, consider a blue that is either on the lighter side, or on a muted side where it isn’t a deep dark blue, but a blue that has a tint to it. These color types make it easier to relax in a space and don’t have as big of an effect on personality and mood as bright and bold colors do.
